Day 1: Montgri castle and fisherstown Estartit

Upon arrival, we will transfer you to your hotel, a 4 star castle that has been able to preserve the magic of a Medieval castle. The castle has a gourmet restaurant with great Catalan cuisine, a beautiful garden and swimming pool. Depending on your arrival, you can already take a walk that same day.

You can choose a flat route towards the fishing village of Estartit or climb to the imposing ruins of the castle of Mongtri at the top.

The 13th century castle of Montgri was a defensive fortress that was never finished. But the walls are still standing and from the fort you have a beautiful view of the mountain range of Montgri and the Medes islands.

You descend through the nature reserve and walk towards Estartit. This is a charming white fishermens village with a beautiful harbor and an archipelago off the coast. These are the Medes Islands, which are classified as a bird sanctuary and a true diving paradise.

Would you like a boat trip around the islands? Let us know.

Day 2: Discover the Montgri mountain range

Depending on your chosen route, you will hike today through or at the foot of the Montgri mountain range. You´ll walk at the border of the Mediterranean Sea with cliffs ranging from 50 to 100 meters. The route leads you over quiet paths and country roads with the ruins of the castle towering above you. You walk through the valley of Santa Catarina with its 14th century chapel and can have a coffee stop in the Catalan village of Bellcaire d'Emporda.

From there it is a short journey to your charming masia, run by a Belgian couple. The hacienda overlooks the nature reserve, has been tastefully renovated and you can relax in the garden with swimming pool or in the cozy reading room.

Day 3: Rugged Coastline and Greek-Roman ruines

Today is a flat trip. You leave again along the ridge. Then you walk through a pine forest until you come to a beautiful, enclosed bay. Here you will find several cafes and a beach bar in the summer.

From here you follow a beautiful path that winds close to the coast. This is the Camino de Ronda, an old smuggling and military path. It is part of the well-known GR 92 and leads you past white fishing villages and secluded beaches in coves. You reach the fishing town of Escala. Lunch is possible in one of the many restaurants in the old center or on the boulevard.

You walk along the rugged coastline and the Greek-Roman ruins of Empuries, a tourist attraction. Next obligatory stop is the wonderful village of Sant Marti Empuries. A medieval village with a beautiful view over the rugged coastline.

Now you follow the coast to your sleeping place of today, a 17th century hacienda 200 meters from the dunes and sea. You can relax in the large garden with swimming pool.

Day 4: Charming countryside and medieval village

You will depart along the banks of the river towards the center of Sant Pere Pescador, a charming fishing and surfing town. This is the region of the fruit trees and so you walk the following kilometers along scattered plantations.

The path runs a bit along the beach and leads you through the Aguamolls, a protected nature reserve and well-known bird sanctuary. It is a beautiful swamp area where you can see 323 different bird species, including storks and flamingos.

Your final destination today is the medieval town of Castello d´Empuries. Think of narrow, cobbled streets and an impressing cathedral at the highest point in the town.

Your hotel is an historic building that has been tastefully restored and where each room has its own character. Of course it also has a swimming pool.

Day 5: Spectacular coastal path and hidden coves

If you would like to have an optional rest day in the middle of your trip, this is a good place.

In that case you can go to the nearby EmpuriaBrava, also called the Venice of Spain because it is built around canals. You can take a boat trip (without a license) on the canals or with a catamaran or sailing boat along the beautiful Costa Brava coast. Another option is to take your rest day on your last day, in Cadaques.

Those who walk further, we bring with a transfer to the other side of the bay, to Canyelles. There you follow the spectacular Cami de Ronda path. After every turn you will be treated to a new beautiful view. You walk along cliffs that pour into the Mediterranean sea and turquoise bays with small beaches where you can swim.

Today you will sleep in Cadaques, a wonderful fishing village flanked by the Cap de Creus and the Cap Norfeu. It consists of white fishermen's houses and summer houses, all beautifully integrated into the mountainous landscape. The village is best known as the home of Salvador Dali. Picasso was also very much at home there. Today it is still an artistic village where it is nice to stay in the small streets with shops, bars and restaurants.

Your hotel is located directly on the quiet bay of Port Llegat, an impressive natural harbor. Dali's house is 100 meters to your right. This is the most easterly point in Spain. Dali had a mirror installed in his bedroom so that he was the first in the country to see the sunrise in the morning. In front of the hotel you will find 2 beach bars and you can rent kayaks.

Day 6: The magical lighthouse of the Cap the Creus National Park

Today you walk through a unique piece of nature. This is the Cap de Creus nature reserve, a protected reserve characterized by whimsical rock formations and rugged nature.

The path starts next to the hotel and meanders along azure blue bays and beautiful views up to the Cap de Creus. This is where the Pyrenees meet the Mediterranean. It is a very particular landscape that looks like the moon. Along the way you will come across secluded beaches where you can swim or snorkel.

The lighthouse of the Cap de Creus is located at the very tip of the Cap and is today a cozy restaurant and a magical place to stay.

Day 7: Walk, rest, kayak or sail

On your last day you have several options.

There are countless walks through the nature park or to the lighthouse of Cadaques, but you can also make a rest day at the pool or beach. Other options include kayaking from azure bay to azure bay, taking a sailing trip, visiting Salvador Dali's house or strolling through Cadaques.

Those who like fine cuisine, should go to Compartir restaurant. It was founded by ex El Bulli chefs, the former best restaurant in the world. Here,  you eat tapas at star level. Price quality this restaurant is unbeatable.

Day 8: Transfer to the airport, trainstation or your car

We pick you up and bring you to the airport of Girona, train station of Figueres or to the place where your car is parked.

Catalonia is a surprisingly varied region in the North of Spain. It is unique because of its natural beauty, cultural sites and strategic location between the Mediterranean Sea and the Pyrenees.

Our cycling routes are located in the North of Catalonia, just across the French border. This is the most unspoilt part of the Costa Brava! You cycle or walk along desolate beaches and various nature reserves such as the Cap de Creus peninsula, the Montgri mountain range, the Isles Medes Marine Reserve and the Aguamolls Bird Sanctuary.

This region can be proud of its rich cultural heritage. The southern part is called the 'The Golden Triangle' for a reason. Ancient medieval villages, archaeological sites and museums take you back to ancient times. In the evening you stay in historic castles or haciendas that immerse you in authentic Catalonia.

3 stars Restaurant El Bulli also put this region on the Burgundian world map. The restaurant is closed, but several chefs now have their own restaurant where you can enjoy star-class tapas. And for the city trippers among you, vibrant Barcelona is only an hour and a half away by car.

This region has it all and the best way to discover this diversity, is through our vacations!
